The Brake pledge

The Brake pledge is a pledge for drivers of all ages asking them to commit to drive as safely as possible by complying with 5 rules. It asks drivers to drive slowly, sober, sharp (not tired nor distracted by a phone for example), secure (belted up in a safe vehicle) and to be sustainable (not drive whenever possible).
As part of your 2young2die campaigns, get drivers to sign up to the Brake pledge through our facebook page.

- Slow
If I drive, I Pledge to drive at 20mph (30kph) or slower in town, and slow down on rural roads too. I will avoid overtaking and hang back.
If I don't drive, I Pledge to remind drivers to slow down so they can stop in time.
- Sober
If I drive, I Pledge to drive sober. Not impaired by any alcohol, illegal drugs, or medication that can affect driving.
If I don't drive, I Pledge to do all I can to prevent impaired driving, for example by not giving drivers alcohol or drugs.
- Sharp
If I drive, I Pledge to put my phone on message service and out of reach. I Pledge to drive alert and not tired, or in pain, groggy or stressed. I will have an uptodate eye test that approves me to drive.
If I don't drive, I Pledge to tell drivers to put away their phones, and try to stop people who are tired or ill or can't see properly from driving, for example, by asking a driver to take a break. - Secure
If I drive, I will always belt up and insist everyone in my vehicle belts up, and adjust head restraints. I will drive a modern, well maintained vehicle.
If I don't drive, I will only get in cars with modern seat belts and good crash protection. If I am a child, I will only get in a car with a suitable child restraint.
- Sustainable
If I drive, I will reduce my driving and consider giving it up.
If I don't drive, I will explain to others the value and benefits of not driving.
